DUBLIN, Ireland - Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Minister for Europe Helen McEntee were meeting with European Commission Chief Negotiator on Brexit Michel Barnier, on Monday in Government Buildings in Dublin.
The meeting comes just days before the UK leaves the EU at the end of this week, on Friday 31 January.
The Taoiseach and Mr Barnier have been discussing the next phase of Brexit negotiations, dealing with the future relationship between the EU and the UK, including trade.
They are discussing implementing the Irish Protocol as part of the Withdrawal Agreement, which aims to prevent a hard border on the island of Ireland, to guarantee citizens' rights, and to protect the Good Friday Agreement.
Varadkar, says his office, is pressing to ensure there be no trade quotas, no tariffs, minimum bureaucracy, and a level playing field between Ireland, the EU and the UK.
